Choosing The Right Jewelry For Your Neckline

Jewelry is generally the final touch to a perfect outfit. Whether you are attending a wedding, an anniversary party or a bat mitzvah, jewelry is one element that women always look for to complement what they are wearing. It is very similar to shoes. Everyone knows the common saying, “shoes make the outfit,” but I am here to tell you that jewelry also helps “make the outfit.” So, when it comes to jewelry, what kind of bling would you wear to a special occasion? Would you choose something with crystals or pearls? Are you looking for something gold or silver? Are dangle earrings or short earrings what you are looking for? The type of jewelry you choose really depends on your style, what you are wearing and what look you are going for. Here are a few accessory suggestions to consider based on different neck lines for your evening wear:

Plunging V-Neckline:  Everyone has seen the plunging neckline. It is a very sexy, dramatic look and is meant to draw attention to the upper body/bust area. And, the jewelry you choose to complement this neckline should do just that! Depending on how deep the “plunge” is, you could go for a longer, lariat type necklace, which will further accentuate your cleavage. Another option to consider is wearing long, dangly earrings without a necklace. This will ensure that the the jewelry you wear is not taking away from the beautiful neckline. Halter: Halter necklines go around the neck and do not generally allow for a necklace. However, choosing the right jewelry will round out your look perfectly! I would recommend shorter earrings with this look as the halter neckline already is accentuating the upper body.

Off-the-shoulder:  A beautiful choker or a multi-strand chunky necklace and bracelet would really accentuate your collar bone with an off the shoulder dress. With this type of dress, the focal point is of course to highlight your shoulders and neck. As such, you will want to make sure the jewelry you wear is more subtle, so as not to take away from the neckline. The jewelry you wear should always be a complement to your outfit.

Strapless: Strapless necklines are very common, used not only in evening wear but often times in bridal wear as well. Long, dramatic earrings, or a choker type necklace would fit nicely with a strapless cocktail dress or a gown. Again, with a strapless dress, the focus is meant to be on your neck and shoulders and the piece of jewelry you choose should complement your dress, not overpower it.

Sweetheart: A sweetheart shaped neckline looks similar to a heart shape at the bust area and is also a very common neckline. A beautiful delicate v-shaped necklace, or a small charm necklace would look great with a sweetheart dress. It will accentuate the neckline without drawing too much attention to the jewelry.

One Shoulder:  The one shoulder neckline of course draws attention to the shoulder and the neck area. Wear bold, mid-sized earrings and a bracelet or a ring with this look. Sometimes jewelry can catch on certain types of fabrics, so make sure the ring/bracelet you choose does not cause any damage to your dress!

Illusion: An illusion neckline tends to be a round neckline and generally does not allow for much space for a necklace. The jewelry that would fit well with this lovely neckline is a bracelet and beautiful earrings.
