Those bridal shoes were made for dancing!
I admit it, I’m a shoeaholic. So, the thought of bridal shoe shopping doesn’t make me cringe. There are so many different options available when it comes to finding the right shoes for your special day. Do you want sandals, sling backs, pumps or flats? What kind of material are you looking for? What colour and style should you buy? So many decisions to make! Here are a few things to think about when you’re looking for that perfect shoe:
-
Consider the location of your wedding. If you’re getting married on the beach, a pump or strappy sandal is most likely not the best option for you. Look into flats, wedges or strappy flat sandals so that you don’t sink into the sand when you say, “I do.” And if you’re getting married in the winter, then you’ll want to avoid open-toed shoes.
-
Think about the style of your dress. If your dress is more on the shorter side, then you may want the style of the shoe to make more of an impact vs. a plain pump. For styles where your feet are visible, consider glamming it up! For longer dresses, you’ll want to make sure that any embellishments or crystals on your shoes won’t catch on your wedding dress and ruin your fabric.
-
Comfort is key! Your wedding day will be a long one, so make sure that you choose shoes that are comfortable for you. If you’re not used to wearing 4-inch heels, your wedding day is not the best day to test them out. Remember, wearing heels for long periods of time lead to swollen feet. You can always wear blingy runners or take a back-up to switch into (flats or some trusty flip flops).
-
Choose the material that best fits with what you need. Leather shoes are a good option if you are looking for something durable that can be worn to other occasions. Leather shoes will also stretch slightly to fit the mold of your feet. A little tip, if your leather shoes are too tight, you can loosen them slightly if you put a damp cloth in the front of your shoe (damp, NOT wet!!!). This will provide a little “give” on your special day. Alternatively, if you’re not a fan of leather and you’re looking to match or add a splash of colour, satin is a good option. It can easily be dyed to match the colour you want.
-
Timing is very important. Brides tend to forget that they will need their shoes for their dress fittings. Make sure you have your shoes prior to your fittings so that the dress can be altered to the appropriate height.
-
Break your shoes in before-hand. Make sure you wear your shoes prior to the wedding day. Breaking your shoes ahead of time will also give you an idea of pain points so that you can find solutions before the big day.
-
Choose the style you like. Comfort is important, but you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort. There are so many different styles and colours that you can choose from (gold, silver, nude, etc.). Pick something you love. Shoes are accessories that you can wear well beyond your wedding day.
- Don’t forget the budget: There are different price points for different kinds of shoes. Make sure you shop around to find the right shoe that fits within your budget!
